Is Mercola Right to Embrace Coffee?

It is true, as Dr. Mercola cites, that there is significant research demonstrating the benefits of coffee to our health. Personally though, I still have reservations about recommending it to you for health reasons, particularly if you are a woman. Why?
  • I have seen too many of my female patients resolve chronic conditions, most commonly painful fibrocystic breasts, when eliminating coffee from their diets. Recently, after one of my patients stopped drinking it, her chronic painful vulvitis (inflammation of the vulva) largely disappeared.
  •

  • A good night’s sleep is a blessing that unfortunately eludes many a coffee drinker. Perimenopausal and menopausal women seem especially susceptible. This may be related to a tendency toward heart arrhythmia or palpitations which occur in some individuals when they consume caffeine.
  •

  • I have also found that most of my patients who suffer from migraines do better without coffee.
  •

One might wonder why these people reacted so negatively to their coffee. Was their brew somehow tainted by commercial agricultural or processing practices? Well, one would conclude otherwise since many had conscientiously chosen to focus their consumption on higher quality organic brands. Alternatively, one might ask whether each set of symptoms had been an allergic reaction mainly unique only to that individual unfortunate enough to have experienced them? Once again, many of these patients had been tested with Muscle Response Testing and other clinical and laboratory assessments to determine sensitivity and none were found to suffer from allergies to coffee. Finally, it would appear that their symptoms simply resulted from a direct inflammatory response produced in their tissues by the common every-day act of merely drinking a good cup of coffee.

“One Person’s Cure is Another Person’s Poison”

As one of my mentors has stated, β€œOne person’s cure is another person’s poison.” So pay attention. If you decide to give coffee a try, take note of any changes in your health. If you start to feel worse after three weeks, realize that you are not one of those people who should be drinking coffee. If you already are a coffee lover and suffer health challenges, take a break from the brew for three weeks and see how you feel. Know that, if you add cream or milk, non dairy creamers, and or sugar or certain other sweeteners to your coffee, these ingredients could also cause health challenges, so test your coffee without them. Always remember that you and your physiology are unique! You need to listen to your body. It will tell you what to do.

  1. How can any ethical health professional claim that coffee is okay for drinking. It causes heart arrhythmia, insomnia, malodorous breath, the oils in it are questionable for health benefits. For those who can’t drink coffee wihout cream (me) or cream and sugar, or sugar, then what? No, it is not good any way you look at it.

  2. Please share your “warm thoughts” on Coffee Enemas and or Coffee/ Glutathione Suppositories… Maybe people are pouring it in the “wrong end” ? LoL

    • Indeed! I do support the use of organic coffee/or organic green tea enemas because of their capacity to draw toxins out of the liver. The coffee is too strong for some individuals so we use organic green tea. πŸ™‚

      • Beth Gaines says

Does the green tea work in the same way that coffee works? Coffee has palmitic acid, so what about the green tea? Great for constipation I imagine, but can it compete with coffee in the way that coffee detoxes the liver?

        • Green tea does not work in the same way that coffee works. They are two very different beverages with different responses in the body. Some individuals do fine with either, others do not.
